Former Premier League player Simon Vukcevic has allegedly been arrested after being caught in possession of a gun and 126 bullets.

reports that the ex-Blackburn Rovers midfielder was apprehended when trying to cross an international border. The 37-year-old, who played internationally for Serbia and Montenegro and lined up against England on a number of occasions, could be held behind bars for 56 days – according to the Serbian press.

It is claimed that Vukcevic was detained on the Gostun border when looking to leave his homeland. Portuguese newspaper says that the one-time Sporting playmaker has been accused of “unlawful possession of a weapon and ammunition”. They also state that prosecutors in the Serbian city of Uzice have taken on the case.

Vukcevic began his professional career at the age of 17 with Partizan Belgrade. He went on to spend time in Russia and Portugal, before joining Blackburn from Sporting in 2011. He played 21 games for Rovers, scoring his first goal in a League Cup tie with Leyton Orient, but suffered relegation from the Premier League in his debut campaign.

He was released as a free agent in January 2013 and linked up with Ukrainian Premier League club FC Karpaty Lviv. Vukcevic went on to spend time in Serbia, Greece, Cyprus, Portugal and Montenegro before retiring in March 2018.
