Chelsea lose Reece James to injury Only played seven games so far this seasonPochettino calls for January reinforcements GettyWHAT HAPPENED?

The Blues' season has been disastrous so far, as they have dropped to 12th in the standings after losing their last two Premier League games. Pochettino's team's latest low point came in the form of a defeat at Goodison Park, which saw their captain hobble off the pitch in the first half due to an injury. The England international is expected to miss more games this season after having already sat out seven due to an earlier injury. The Argentine coach also talked about making significant reinforcements in the January transfer window, despite the club already having spent £435 million ($545m) in the summer on signings such as Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Christopher Nkunku.

Chelsea boss Pochettino told BBC MOTD: "Football is about scoring goals and we were not clinical in front of goal. I'm really, really disappointed. We didn't get the point we deserved. I think we were better but we didn't get what we wanted.

"This was a game to play and to win. It's a problem we need to check. We need to analyse the reality. We need to talk and to try to improve in the next transfer market."

On James' injury, he added: "He felt something in his hamstring. It's not so nice for him to suffer another injury. He is an important player."

Abdoulaye Doucoure and Lewis Dobbin's goals in the second half for Everton ensured that the Blues recorded their third loss in their last four Premier League games and seventh of the campaign overall. With just five top-flight victories this season, Chelsea have fallen to 12th place with just 19 points from 16 games, and now sit behind west London rivals Fulham, who thrashed West Ham 5-0 on Sunday.

WHAT NEXT FOR CHELSEA?

With James now out of action for an unspecified time, the Blues face an uphill battle to try and make something of their season. Next up is a match against Sheffield United on December 16, before they take on Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
